Following a series of thoughtful discussions and some very tough decisions, the owner of Mutiny Marine has chosen to begin a well‑earned retirement. With this transition, we will be closing our South Lyon office effective September 1st.
My decision to close the company and step into retirement has been one of the hardest choices I’ve ever had to make. It wasn’t sudden, and it certainly wasn’t easy. For years, we’ve pushed through rising material costs, shifting industry sentiment, and the ongoing struggle to find qualified technicians who share the same level of care and craftsmanship that our customers deserve. Each of these challenges played a part, but none of them outweighed the loyalty, trust, and relationships we’ve built with the people who have supported us.
For the better part of a decade, our customers weren’t just names on work orders. They were families we knew, boats we remembered, stories we shared. Many of you became familiar faces we greeted by name, people we looked forward to seeing season after season. Serving you wasn’t just business; it became part of our identity, part of our daily purpose. That’s why this decision carries so much weight. It isn’t just the end of a chapter for the company, it’s the closing of a relationship we’ve cherished deeply.
The marine industry is a world of incredible highs and unforgiving lows. We’ve celebrated victories, solved impossible problems, and helped customers navigate some of their toughest moments on the water. We’ve also weathered storms. Sometimes, testing every ounce of resilience we had. Through all of it, our customers remained the reason we kept pushing forward. You trusted us with your investments, your safety, your memories, and your family time. That trust has meant more to us than any number on a balance sheet ever could.
We know this announcement comes as a surprise, and we recognize the short notice adds to that impact. Reaching out individually to the 740 customers we serve each year has proven nearly impossible, and that has weighed heavily on us. You deserved to hear this directly, with the respect and appreciation you’ve earned through your loyalty.
When we look back, we’re proud, deeply proud of what we accomplished together. In a short period of time, we built something meaningful. We created a place where customers felt heard, respected, and genuinely cared for. We made decisions based on integrity, not convenience. We advocated for people even when it meant turning down work. We built a reputation rooted in honesty, craftsmanship, and heart.
As we prepare to close this chapter, please know this: our gratitude for you runs deeper than any message can fully express. You made this journey worthwhile. You made it memorable. And you made it something we will carry with us long after the doors close.

Several members of our team have chosen to move forward with a seasonal opportunity to continue supporting customers who rely on these services. Their Mercury Marine, Suzuki Marine, and general master‑level certified technicians bring more than 30 years of combined industry experience. They will be offering full winter service packages and shrink wrap. Please note: storage will not be available. Throttle & Anchor Marine can only assist customers who already have a storage location secured for their boat.
